# General FAQs

Short answers to the questions wineries ask most often about running a club on CrushSuite — billing, members, releases, migration, and archiving.

#### Which club settings can't be changed after the club is created?

**Market** is fixed at creation, and it determines the club's currency, so that's fixed too. Everything else — name, description, price, schedule, visibility, customization rules — can be changed at any time from **Clubs** → \[Club Name] → **Settings**.

{% hint style="warning" %}
There's no way to change **Market** later, and no migration path between markets. If you need a different one, create a new club. Slow down on that field.
{% endhint %}

#### Do my members need a Shopify account?

Yes. The member portal — where members skip a release, update their address, change their card, or cancel — is a page inside Shopify's **Customer Accounts**.

Your store also needs to be on Shopify's new **Customer Accounts**. On classic customer accounts the portal doesn't exist at all, and every self-service request will come to you instead.

***

#### What time on the release date are my members billed?

Shortly after midnight on the **Release Date**, in the club's **Timezone**. CrushSuite checks for releases that have reached their release date every 20 minutes, so the first billing pass starts within about 20 minutes of midnight local time, and Shopify creates each member's order as their charge succeeds. Nothing waits for you to open the app.

For example, a club in Oregon with **Timezone** set to `America/Los Angeles` and a release dated September 1 starts billing just after 12:00 a.m. Pacific on September 1.

Contracts for the release are generated the day before, and the default orders themselves are built once the **Customization Deadline** has passed. See [Understanding Release Dates](https://crushsuite.gitbook.io/docs/clubs/managing-releases/understanding-release-dates).

***

#### Can I run CrushSuite Clubs and CrushSuite Compliance together?

Yes, and they're designed to work together. With Compliance installed, CrushSuite Clubs can add a per-state compliance fee to each release order automatically, and your club signup flows through Compliance's pre-checkout check.

***

#### Do I need Shopify Plus?

No. CrushSuite Clubs works on standard Shopify plans.

You do need an Online Store 2.0 theme, since app blocks and app embeds don't exist on vintage themes, and your store needs to support Shopify subscriptions so membership and release contracts can be created.

***

#### Does my club product need inventory or a shipping profile?

No. When you create a club, CrushSuite creates a single-variant product for the membership itself and marks it as not requiring shipping — the membership is a digital product.

Shipping is charged on the release orders, not on the membership. That's also why your club product page collects a shipping address directly: checkout has no shipping step to collect one.

***

#### What happens if a member's card is declined?

For a release order, the order is flagged **Needs attention** and you can use **Retry billing** or **Send payment update email** from the order's detail page.

For the recurring membership fee, retries follow your **Max Retry Attempts** and **Retry Interval** settings, and **After Max Retries** decides whether the membership is paused or cancelled.

Failed release order billing emails the member automatically. Failed membership fee billing does not — watch for the **Membership payment failed** badge on your Members list and reach out to the member directly.

***

#### Can I pause or cancel a membership for a member?

Members manage pausing, cancelling, and rejoining from their account portal. If a member asks you to do it for them, send them their portal link — every club email contains one.

***

#### If a member pauses, what happens to the release order they already have?

It's cancelled. Pausing or cancelling a membership cancels that member's queued subscription contracts and marks their upcoming release orders as **Skipped**.

Unpausing doesn't bring the order back. If a member pauses and changes their mind before the release bills, process them as a late signup from the release's orders screen. See [What Members Can Do Themselves](https://crushsuite.gitbook.io/docs/clubs/managing-members/what-members-can-do-themselves).

***

#### Can members skip a shipment?

Yes, if you've turned on **Allow Members to Skip Releases** on the club. Members skip from their portal any time up to the release date.

A skipped member isn't charged and gets no order. Note that skipping does not release the inventory already reserved for them — it's held as buffer for the release.

***

#### What happens when I archive a club?

Archiving retires the club permanently. Its Shopify product is set to draft, every membership is cancelled, and members' subscription contracts are expired.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Archiving cannot be undone. Expired subscription contracts cannot be reactivated, so members would have to sign up again from scratch. You also can't archive a club while it has release orders that haven't been billed or skipped.
{% endhint %}

***

#### Do imported members get their payment link automatically?

No. Payment setup links are never sent on their own — not when the import finishes, and not on any schedule afterwards. You send them from the migration's detail page with **Resend payment email**.

Until a member completes that link they sit at **Awaiting payment**, show as **Pending Migration** on your Members list, and can't see the club in their portal at all. See [Running a Migration](https://crushsuite.gitbook.io/docs/clubs/migrating-from-another-platform/running-a-migration).

***

#### Can I undo a migration?

{% hint style="warning" %}
No. Once you click **Start import**, the memberships it creates can't be rolled back from the app.
{% endhint %}

Validating your CSV, though, is free and repeatable — it creates nothing. Validate as many times as you need until every row is clean, then import once.

***

#### Can I bring my members' saved cards over from Vinoshipper?

Yes, on any Shopify plan. Vinoshipper transfers the cards from its Stripe account to a Stripe account you own, you accept the transfer in Stripe, and CrushSuite imports the cards with your members so they are billed without re-entering payment.

Two things trip people up: Stripe has to be connected to your store as a **secondary gateway** before you import, and the transfer isn't complete until you **accept** it in your Stripe Dashboard. The full sequence is in [Migrating Payment Methods from Vinoshipper](https://crushsuite.gitbook.io/docs/clubs/migrating-from-another-platform/migrating-payment-methods-from-vinoshipper).

***

#### Which Vinoshipper members should I import: Current, Inactive, On Hold, or Archived?

**Current** only. Vinoshipper exports each of those groups on its own tab, and every row CrushSuite imports becomes an **active** membership with a subscription contract. There is no status column in the import file, so an On Hold member would come in active and be billed on your next release.

Keep the Inactive, On Hold, and Archived tabs as your historical record. When an On Hold member is ready to resume, add them then, either by importing a short CSV of just those members or with **Add to Club**. See [Adding Members Manually](https://crushsuite.gitbook.io/docs/clubs/managing-members/adding-members-manually).

***

#### How do I test all this without charging a real customer?

Set your club's **Visibility** to **Hidden (Draft)** while you work. The club product stays out of your storefront, but you can still add yourself as a member, build a release, and watch orders generate end to end.

Because a release must be published at least two days before its release date, plan on a short test run rather than an instant one. Work through the [Go-Live Checklist](https://crushsuite.gitbook.io/docs/clubs/getting-started/go-live-checklist) before you switch **Visibility** to **Published**.
