# What Members Can Do Themselves

Most of what a member needs day to day they can do themselves, from the member portal inside Shopify's Customer Accounts. Which requests to expect, and which ones genuinely need you.

#### What members can do

<table><thead><tr><th width="223.6875">Action</th><th width="516.02734375">Notes</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>View their clubs, releases, and order history</td><td>Read-only, always available</td></tr><tr><td>Customize a release</td><td>Only until the release's customization deadline — the last date a member can change what's in their shipment. Available when you've enabled customization on that release</td></tr><tr><td>Skip a release</td><td>Available when <strong>Allow Members to Skip Releases</strong> is on. They keep their membership, just miss that shipment</td></tr><tr><td>Update their address, phone, and payment method</td><td>Changes reach any pending release orders automatically. A new card does <strong>not</strong> replace the card on the membership-fee contract — that one has to be changed on the contract in <strong>Shopify Admin</strong></td></tr><tr><td>Pause or cancel, then rejoin later</td><td>See "Pause vs. cancel" below</td></tr></tbody></table>

#### What requires you

| Situation | Why it needs you |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Anything past a deadline — customization, signup cutoff | The member portal enforces the same dates you set; once they're past, the member has no self-service option left |
| Any change on an archived club | Membership changes are blocked entirely once a club is archived |
| Changing the membership fee | Members never see a price-change control — the fee lives on their existing contract |
| Pausing, resuming, or cancelling a membership on a member's behalf | See below |
| Fixing where a shipment actually ships to | See below |

#### Pause vs. cancel, in merchant terms

A member pauses their own membership from the portal with **Pause Membership**, choosing 1 to 4 releases in the **Number of Releases to Pause For** picker, and undoes it themselves with **Unpause Membership** at any time. Pausing stops CrushSuite from billing that member's membership fee — but it does **not** suspend the underlying Shopify subscription contract. The contract keeps showing as active on Shopify's side; your Members list, not **Shopify Admin**, is the source of truth on who's actually paused.

Cancelling with **Cancel Membership** marks the member as cancelled. CrushSuite pauses the underlying Shopify contract rather than cancelling it outright, which is what lets the member rejoin later with **Rejoin Club** without going through checkout again. Pause and cancel both stop billing, but only cancelling removes them from the club's active member count.

Members manage pausing, cancelling, and rejoining from their account portal. If a member asks you to do it for them, send them their portal link — every club email contains one.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Pausing also cancels any release orders already queued for that member and marks them skipped. Unpausing doesn't bring them back — if a member pauses and changes their mind before a release bills, process them as a late signup from the release's orders page.
{% endhint %}

#### The address trap

{% hint style="warning" %}
Club shipments use the address stored in CrushSuite, not the address on the Shopify customer record. **Edit in Shopify** changes the Shopify record only. To change where a member's wine ships, they update it in their account portal.
{% endhint %}

Say this out loud to any member who asks you to "just update the address in Shopify" — doing so will not move their next shipment.
