# Compliance Fees on Orders

Every order that includes alcohol products may have compliance fees applied. This page explains how those fees are calculated, how they appear on orders, and how they're recorded.

### How Fees Are Calculated

State alcohol fees are calculated per 750ml equivalent based on the rates you configured in Setting Up State Alcohol Fees →.

For example, if the customer's state has a fee of $0.04 per 750ml equivalent and they order:

* 3 × 750ml bottles → 3 fee units → $0.12
* 1 × 1.5L bottle → 2 fee units → $0.08
* 2 × 375ml bottles → 1 fee unit → $0.04

### How They Appear

Alcohol fees show as a separate line item at checkout (e.g., "State Alcohol Fee × 3") and are recorded on the order in both Shopify and CrushSuite.

### Fee Recording

### Non-Alcohol Items

Non-alcohol products in the same order do not incur alcohol fees. Only items flagged as alcohol with a valid volume are included in the fee calculation.
